LEVELS OF LEARNING IN UNION CATHOLIC CURRICULUM OFFERINGS

At Union Catholic we recognize and value each student as an individual learner. Our curriculum is arranged into different learning levels designed to challenge and foster academic success based on the student's strengths. Here are some of the highlights of the levels of learning that make Union Catholic unique.

  • All levels of learning are college preparatory, from our Distinguished Scholars Program to our Foundations program. A student's placement in classes may include multiple learning levels based on individual strengths.
  • Each student's academic history, including standardized test scores and grades earned, is closely reviewed to determine the appropriate placement freshman year. Our goal is to ensure that each student is both challenged and successful. For example, a student might be Honors level in math and science courses but Regular level in humanities courses.
  • Students are never "locked" in to a specific learning level; throughout a student's high school career he/she can move between levels depending on his/her performance. A student's high achievement in one level allows him/her to meet the prerequisites for a more challenging learning level the following academic year.
  • Students presenting superior academic credentials are invited to join the Distinguished Scholars Program. This program consists of accelerated level courses designed to challenge students through an enriched and comprehensive curriculum.
  • For incoming students that require more academic support we offer The Foundations Program. Upon completion of the freshman program students may continue in adapted courses or move into some or all regular level courses based on the academic performance.
